Na cerimónia The Game Awards 2019 que consagra os jogos que mais se destacaram ao longo do ano e bem ao estilo dos óscares de Hollywood, muitos títulos foram vencedores das diferentes categorias, no entanto algumas surpresas ocorreram.

Surpresa para Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice que arrecadou o prémio para o Melhor Jogo do Ano e para o jogo Disco Elysium que levou para casa quatro galardões. No plano inverso, destaque pela negativa para Death Stranding que era apontado como o mais forte candidato, ficou-se por três premiações, falhando inclusive o GOTY.
